How to use leveling agents correctly in water-based coatings

Due to the relatively high viscosity of water-based coating systems, there is a large difference in surface tension during the coating film formation process, which can easily lead to defects such as orange peel and shrinkage, affecting the mirror effect. Adding leveling agents can reduce the surface tension of coatings, prolong the flow time, improve leveling performance, enhance scratch resistance, prevent sticking, and greatly reduce surface defects; A good water-based coating leveling agent in China, with excellent fluidity and leveling properties.

The non-ionic properties are not affected by the pH of the system. Characteristics include high temperature resistance, enhanced gloss, defoaming, recoatability, low surface tension, wetting agent, dispersant (to be added before pigment grinding). Its excellent dispersibility can help wet and disperse pigments in the formula. There is no adverse effect on the gloss of the formula product. It can be added during the production process or added later. Add directly or dilute with an appropriate solvent before use, and conduct a gradient test to determine a certain amount before use. When diluted with water to a concentration of 10%, it is directly added to the water-based coating.

The general dosage of leveling agent is 0.1% -0.2%, controlled at around 0.3%. When the defoamer exceeds the limit, in order to overcome shrinkage, the dosage of leveling agent may even exceed 1%, which depends on the specific situation.
