Silane coupling agent can build a "molecular bridge" between the interface of inorganic and organic substances, connecting two materials with vastly different properties together to improve the performance of composite materials and increase adhesive strength. This characteristic of silane coupling agent was first applied to glass fiber reinforced plastics (GRP) as a surface treatment agent for glass fiber, which greatly improved the mechanical properties, electrical properties and anti-aging properties of GRP. Its importance in the GRP industry has long been recognized.
At present, the use of silane coupling agents has expanded from glass fiber reinforced plastics (FRP) to glass fiber surface treatment agents for glass fiber reinforced thermoplastic plastics (FRTP), surface treatment agents for inorganic fillers, sealants, resin concrete, water crosslinked polyethylene, resin encapsulation materials, shell molding, tires, belts, coatings, adhesives, grinding materials (grindstones), and other surface treatment agents. Among the two types of functional groups with different properties in silane coupling agents, the Y group is the most important and has a significant impact on the performance of the product, playing a decisive role in determining the performance of the coupling agent. Only when the Y group can react with the corresponding resin can the strength of the composite material be improved. Generally, it is required that the Y group be compatible with the resin and capable of coupling reaction.
Silane coupling agents have a wide range of applications, including plastics, rubber, coatings, inks, adhesives, inorganic powders, and chemical building materials, and are welcomed by various industries. Let's learn together the precautions to be taken when using silane coupling agents:
Regarding the safety and hygiene of silane coupling agents:
1. If it enters the eyes, please rinse immediately with plenty of water and receive medical diagnosis and treatment as needed. Especially when using silane coupling agent intermediates and amino products, be very careful and dispose of them as soon as possible.
2. When adhered to clothing, please rinse with running water.
3. Please rinse your hands thoroughly after use or before eating or smoking.
4. Once the solution is splashed, it can be rinsed with a large amount of water, or adsorbed with cloth or sand, and then burned. In addition, when a large amount of leakage occurs in the intermediate of silane coupling agent, it is strictly prohibited to inject water. Please use cloth or dry sand for adsorption and then recover.
5. Due to the fact that it belongs to Class 4 of the Fire Protection Law for dangerous goods (flammable liquids), please strictly follow the regulations prohibiting smoking and other activities when storing and using it.
6. Please use in a ventilated environment to avoid absorbing or coming into contact with steam and steam generated by the decomposition of water. Especially when silane coupling agent intermediates come into contact with moisture or humidity in the air, they will produce hydrogen chloride gas, which can cause significant irritation to the skin and mucous membranes. Please be aware of this.
7. Please use protective equipment such as rubber gloves and safety goggles to prevent the solution from adhering to the skin and mucous membranes. Once adhered, please rinse thoroughly with running water immediately. In addition, local ventilation should be carried out when using silane coupling agent intermediates, and if necessary, please wear an acidic gas mask.
Regarding the quality, storage, and use of silane coupling agents:
1. Please keep it in a low temperature, dark place (below room temperature without direct sunlight) to avoid the invasion of moisture and other harmful substances.
2. If silane coupling agents come into contact with water or moisture, they will undergo hydrolysis and deteriorate, while also producing substances such as hydrochloric acid and methanol. Therefore, great care must be taken when storing after opening. After use, the bottle stopper should be tightly closed to prevent moisture and dampness from entering. The most ideal method at this point is to fill the container with dry nitrogen gas.
3. In cases where high-purity products are particularly needed in the field of electronic materials, please request them from relevant departments.
4. Please read the product's Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) carefully before use. MSDS can be obtained from relevant departments.
