Application of silane coupling agent in rubber:

 

Due to the benefits of using inorganic fillers instead of carbon black in reinforced rubber, silane has been widely utilized in the organic rubber industry. Compared to using carbon black, white carbon black and other inorganic fillers used to enhance rubber can provide unique and superior physical properties and performance. However, in order for non carbon black reinforcing fillers to work, silane coupling agents must be used.

 

In order to effectively combine inorganic fillers and organic elastomers, the use of silicon coupling agents is one of the key factors. Rubber products filled with silane coupling agents and mineral fillers can be used to manufacture automobiles, tires, shoe soles, belts, hoses, and other mechanical products.

Adding a silicon coupling agent during the composite process can achieve direct treatment of the filler. The use of coupling agents in tire rubber:

 

Tires reinforced with white carbon black are called "green" tires because they improve fuel economy while maintaining or enhancing other tire performance. In addition, these tires use a mineral derived filler instead of fossil fuel derived fillers, which is currently the largest market for silane coupling agents.

 

The use of silicon-based vinyl silane as a silane coupling agent in EPDM and cable coatings reinforced with kaolin is another important rubber application. Vinyl silane improves the electrical properties of reinforced rubber, enabling it to pass rigorous power factor electrical testing, but only with the use of optimized silane coupling agent technology.
