Release agent is designed for special molding processes and is an auxiliary agent used in the production of metal die-casting and casting products. Its main function is to help metal die-casting products be removed from the mold and maintain their integrity and post-processing ability.

 

The main function of release agent is to form a uniform release film on the surface of the mold, so that the molded product can be released. The second function is to consider the quality and style of the surface of the molded product, the feasibility of scale and cleaning on the mold, and the feasibility of coating. Other factors to consider include: product storage life, product stability, user (and manufacturer) health or safety concerns, and corrosion issues. The basic components of release agents include different types of wax, resin, oil, and silicone oil. The release agent used for metal die-casting products is mainly an external release agent.

Due to the differences in composition and content of water-based release agents, the initial temperature at which their active ingredients begin to adhere to the surface of the mold, known as the wetting temperature, varies. This means that the initial temperature at which the effective film is truly formed is different. Practice has shown that the type, concentration, mold temperature, spraying method, and quantity of release agent directly affect the quality of die-casting.

 

Based on the summary of the experience of using water-based release agents by some specialized release agent manufacturers, the appropriate approach when selecting and using release agents is:

 

1. To explore the optimal dilution ratio and spray amount. 

2. To protect the mold, high-quality and less sprayed release agents should be selected. 

3. To reduce the deposition residue on the mold, do not use products with excessive paraffin wax. 

4. Different types of release agents should be selected based on the size, wall thickness, complexity, and process of the castings. 

5. Pay attention to the blowing and chip removal process to ensure the complete removal of residual release agent each time. 

6. Mold temperature control: It is recommended to open the mold at 300-450 ℃; Pick up items at 280-430 ℃; Start spraying release agent at 200-280 ℃; Film formation at 180-350 ℃; Blow air to remove debris at 150-300 ℃.
