Water based industrial paint mainly uses water as a diluent and does not require solvents. It is a new type of environmentally friendly coating that is different from oil-based industrial paint. If the formula of water-based industrial paint is insufficient, it is easy to encounter foaming problems, which will affect the film formation of the coating and cause pinholes in the paint film. Therefore, defoamers for water-based industrial paint are an essential part of the entire formula.

The basic principle of foaming is that the lower the surface tension of the system, the smaller the free energy required for the system to form foam, and the easier it is to produce foam. When the system contains surfactant, such as dispersant, wetting agent, leveling agent, etc., foam will form a more stable foam, which will make it difficult for foam to burst.

Water based industrial paint defoamers can be divided into organic silicon and non silicon types. Among them, organic silicon mainly uses hydrophobic silicone oil as the active ingredient, combined with other carrier surfactants. Its characteristics are low surface tension, high surface activity, strong defoaming power, low usage, and low cost; The disadvantage is that it is prone to oil shrinkage, so it is necessary to control the dosage well.

The dosage of each defoamer is different, but generally for high viscosity industrial paints, due to the difficulty of defoaming and multiple stabilizing factors, the dosage is slightly higher, usually ranging from 0.05% to 0.3%. Low viscosity industrial paints or water-soluble coatings, especially water-soluble coatings, can be reduced appropriately due to the presence of a certain amount of cosolvents, usually 0.03-0.5%.
