The anti ripple effect of leveling agent

Ripples are also caused by uneven surface tension. But it should be noted whether it is vertical spraying or flat spraying. When spraying on a flat surface, the drying speed of the coating is uneven, and the surface tension in the fast drying area is higher than that in the slow drying area. At this time, the surface tension will push the coating in the slow drying area to move towards the fast drying area, producing ripples in the left and right directions. This can be solved by using organosilicon leveling agents that reduce surface tension. But when the vertical spraying produces upper and lower ripples, it is best not to use leveling agents that reduce surface tension to solve it, otherwise it will become more and more serious.

This is because the paint falls, and the surface tension below is higher than above, so the paint is pushed from the bottom to the top, sinking by gravity and producing up and down ripples. The greater the surface tension reduced by leveling agents, the lower the surface tension they rely on, the stronger the upward thrust, and the larger the ripples. The best method is to add leveling agents that do not reduce surface tension. Water and oil are dual-use and can quickly orient at the solid/liquid interface, greatly reducing surface tension (or interfacial tension) and improving adhesion to the substrate without affecting the interlayer adhesion of the coating, which helps with leveling.
