Silane coupling agents provide the core performance of primer products in the coating industry. Alkoxysilane coupling agents are widely used in the formulation of primers for various metals and silicon containing materials.
The alkoxysilane primer commonly used as an adhesion promoter can also provide controlled hydrophobicity, excellent UV and thermal stability, surface activity, chemical resistance, and corrosion protection performance.
Silane coupling agents must be used at the interface between sealants or adhesives and materials. Choose silane coupling agents that match the organic functionality of the organic molecules in the coating. Typically, silane mixtures are used as adhesion promoters to improve the hydrophobicity, thermal stability, or cross-linking properties of the bonding area.
Hydrolysis principle of silane coupling agent:
The use of silicon coupling agents as primers must ensure that silane is located at the interface between the material and the polymer to increase viscosity. Silane primer is usually a 0.5-5% ethanol or water/ethanol dilution, applied or sprayed onto the material, and the solvent will subsequently evaporate.
By combining the curing and protective properties of organic resins with the thermal and UV stability of silane, a mixture composed of epoxy resin, epoxy resin curing agent, organic functional alkoxysilane, and silane condensation catalyst can provide high heat resistance and excellent mechanical strength.
Similarly, by utilizing silanol or alkoxysilane generated from fully or partially hydrolyzed alkyl or aromatic alkylsilane, as well as the reactivity of these silanol and silane with epoxy resin, copolymers with greatly improved waterproof and moisture resistance can be produced
