Tyzor®217 can react with many nucleophilic species, such as -OH and -COOH groups. It is an effective cross-linking agent for carbohydrates (eg cellulose, starch and guar gum) and other functionalized polymers (eg polyvinyl alcohol). It can also be used as a surface modifier and tackifier to improve the oxidation of the surface of paper, glass, metals, pigments and other materials.
Oil well fracturing fluid
Tyzor®217 is an effective cross-linking agent in the dispersion of guar gum and its derivatives, forming a high-viscosity hydrogel used in oil well fracturing applications.
Inks, paints and coatings
Tyzor®217 crosslinks pigments and binders in water-based paints (such as acrylic paints) and printing inks. Tyzor® 217 can be used to treat glass, metals, fillers and pigments to increase viscosity, increase compatibility and modify physical properties. At the same time, Tyzor® 217 also has the advantages of no volatile compounds and low toxicity.
Paper and non-woven fabric
Tyzor®217 can be used to modify the surface of paper and artificial non-woven fabrics to increase hardness and reduce hydrophilicity.
Tyzor® 217 is usually formulated with other ingredients in cross-linking, paint and coating applications. Generally, to prevent accidental pre-reactions, zirconium is added as the last ingredient. The time for gel formation depends on several factors, including: composition, type of polymer, temperature, pH, brine strength, and zirconium concentration. For adhesion promotion or surface modification applications, Tyzor® 217 can be used as a primer from a dilute solution.
