Dynasylan, a silane product containing benzene functional groups ® 9265 phenyl triethoxysilane, developed and produced by Evonik Evonik Degussa AG, is used to modify the surface of inorganic materials and is an important component in the sol gel system. Dynasylan ® 9265 is a colorless, low viscosity liquid. It is regarded as trifunctional because its three ethoxylates can be hydrolyzed, and the phenyl contained in it makes it show good thermal stability, thus endowing the sol gel coating system with ductility.

 Dynasylan® 9265 The silanol group generated by the hydrolysis of phenyltriethoxysilane forms a very stable silicon oxygen bond (- Si-O-Si -) in the subsequent condensation reaction. Once a certain amount of silanol groups are generated, the hydrolysis and condensation reactions of silane proceed simultaneously. Silicon alcohol groups can also react with hydroxyl groups on inorganic substrates. The absolute and relative rates of hydrolysis and condensation reactions depend on several factors: pH value, concentration, solvent, temperature, and the characteristics of the catalyst. After adding the catalyst, the hydrolysis solution of Dynasylan ® 9265 phenyltriethoxysilane immediately exhibited stratification. It can be controlled to partially hydrolyze and store stably for later use.


 Dynasylan® 9265 The reaction rate of phenyltriethoxysilane with water is higher than that of Dynasylan ®  9165 is slow.
 
 Using maleic acid as a catalyst, adding 1.3 times the molar amount of Si atoms in water can activate Dynasylan ®  9265 phenyltriethoxysilane undergoes hydrolysis. After 1-2 hours, a clear solution is formed, and if ethanol is added, the rate of forming a clear solution is faster. This clear solution can be maintained for several weeks until stratification occurs. Adding methoxypropanol can prevent the occurrence of delamination.
 
 Inorganic surface modification


 Dynasylan® 9265 Phenyltriethoxysilane is used to modify the surface of inorganic fillers such as calcium silicate and aluminum hydroxide.


 Dynasylan® 9265 The modification of phenyltriethoxysilane makes the above surfaces more hydrophobic and thus improves their dispersibility in polymers containing mineral fillers. Dynasylan ® 9265 phenyltriethoxysilane is particularly suitable as a polymer carrier for high-temperature processing and can also reduce the viscosity of polymer melts.
 
 Application of Sol gel System


 In many sol gel systems, Dynasylan ® 9265 phenyltriethoxysilane is partially hydrolyzed and then further crosslinked at high temperatures. Its pre hydrolysis is often combined with alkyl silane (Dynasylan) ® MTES or other organic functional silanes (Dynasylan) ®GLYMO)、 Pre hydrolysis of silicate ester and even silicon gel occurs together. This pre hydrolyzed product can be further improved by adding organic resin or inorganic nanoparticles (such as AEROSIL) to enhance its properties ®)。 Organic/inorganic hybrid networks can also be constructed using silane products containing organic functional groups (such as propylamino) and organic esters. The above mixture is cured using standard methods. In this way, coating products with better UV resistance than traditional organic coatings can be obtained, and materials with better heat resistance than traditional resin can also be prepared.
