Evonik (formerly Degussa AG) A, organic silane coupling agent Dynasylan A, ethyl orthosilicate Overview:
Dynasylan® A Ethyl orthosilicate (also known as:Silane coupling agent A,Adhesive A) Developed and produced by Evonik Degussa AG, ethyl orthosilicate is an important industrial orthosilicate ester. That is, TEOS (tetraethoxysilane), which is often mentioned in literature. Dynasylan ® A ethyl orthosilicate is a colorless, low viscosity liquid with a silica content of 28.5%. Acid or base is required as a catalyst to hydrolyze it during use. Due to the fact that all four ethoxy groups can participate in hydrolysis reactions, Dynasylan ® A tetraethyl orthosilicate is a tetrafunctional compound. The silicon hydroxyl groups released by hydrolysis will then undergo condensation reactions, forming extremely stable silicon oxygen bonds (- Si-O-Si -). The condensation reaction starts before the end of the hydrolysis reaction, that is, some condensation products have been formed, which will continue to condense to form gel during storage. The degree of gel formation depends on the amount of water content.

Evonik (formerly Degussa AG) A, organic silane coupling agent Dynasylan A, ethyl orthosilicate application:
Dynasylan ® A ethyl orthosilicate can be used as a raw material for ready to use silicic acid in many applications. The generated silicic acid can undergo bonding reactions with many inorganic substrates a-nd can be completed in situ by controlling certain parameters. Glass, metal, fillers, some synthetic fibers can all be coated with a layer of SiO2 coating on their surfaces in this way, thereby improving chemical stability, thermal stability, mechanical properties.
Other applications
Crosslinking agent in silicone rubber system
Desiccant in sealant system
Dynasylan ® A tetraethyl orthosilicate can be used as an important raw material for sol gel, combined with some alkyl silane (such as Dynasylan ® MTES can introduce some organic functional groups to form a network like silicon oxide structure.
By introducing some silanes containing organic functional groups (such as aminopropyl) and polymerizing them with some organic precursors, an organic/non-polar hybrid network structure can be formed. This theory can be applied to prepare coatings with high scratch resistance and wear resistance.
Dynasylan ® A ethyl orthosilicate is insoluble in water, so its hydrolysis requires the use of some mixed solvents, such as ethanol. Suitable catalysts are also required, such as inorganic acids or ammonia, or acetic acid or amines.
The shelf life of the product obtained from partial hydrolysis of Dynasylan ® A ethyl orthosilicate depends on the amount of water and solvent used. The amount of water used can determine the reactivity of hydrolysis products. The reactivity and shelf life are inversely proportional. When the amount of water is appropriate, the shelf life of hydrolysis products can reach up to one year.
