Popular Science on Release Agents

The product is processed and formed in the mold. When the product material comes into contact with the mold surface, there will be certain frictional resistance due to various reasons, which makes it difficult for the product to peel off from the mold after forming. In order to reduce the adsorption/adhesion between the product and the mold, release agents are often used as isolation layers between the product and the mold. Release agent is a kind of interfacial facial mask layer used on the surface of two objects that are easy to stick to each other, which can make the adhesive peel off quickly.

There are various and complex types of release agents on the market. In order to help users better understand and use release agents, the editor has classified them according to the composition and form of release agent products as follows:

1. Silicone oil

This type of release agent substrate includes methyl silicone oil, methyl phenyl silicone oil, and various modified silicone oils. The commonly used silicone oil release agent is mainly composed of silicone oil, and then mixed with organic solvents such as toluene or gasoline to produce semi-solid paste like silicone oil release agents.

2. Organic silicon

This type of release agent substrate is organochlorosilane or organoalkoxysilane, such as methyl chlorosilane, methyl ethoxysilane, phenyl chlorosilane, phenyl ethoxysilane and other organic silicon compounds, or an organic silane solution in which the above-mentioned organic silane is dissolved in an organic solvent. When coated on the surface of the mold substrate, an anti adhesive working film can be formed. The direct use of organosilane as a mold release agent has certain limitations. Among them, the hydrogen chloride released during the hydrolysis process of organochlorosilane absorbing moisture in the air is corrosive and only suitable for glass and ceramic mold substrates with corrosion resistance.

3. Organosilicon lotion

This type of release agent is based on silicone oil or silicone resin, and is made by adding emulsifiers and water in a ratio. After the water in the emulsion evaporates, a release layer can be formed on the surface of the mold. It can also have a ring, such as D4/DMC, to produce hydroxyl silicone oil lotion through lotion polymerization; Or use amino silicone oil, hydrogen silicone oil, etc. as raw materials, add emulsifiers, fungicides, etc. to produce corresponding lotion.

4. Silicone resin

This type of release agent substrate is a type of organic silicon polymer that can be crosslinked and cured, such as methyl silicone resin and methyl phenyl silicone resin. Usually, the above-mentioned silicone resin is dissolved in organic solvents such as ethanol, toluene, gasoline, etc. to prepare a silicone resin solution. The release agent is coated on the surface of the mold using spray or dip coating processes, and then the silicone resin is cured into a release film by heating or other methods.

5. Other categories

This covers many types, in simple terms, it requires excellent properties such as resistance to adhesion and easy demolding, especially suitable for molding and demolding of complex shaped products.
