Precautions for using platinum catalyst:
What problems do chemical companies such as silicone rubber product factories encounter when using platinum catalysts? What are the situations regarding this issue? We conducted a simple organization.
1. When using platinum catalysts, it is necessary to first remove potential issues from the raw materials and reaction system. If toxic substances cannot be removed from the system, the best option is to first apply hydrogen containing silicone oil onto the surface of the substrate containing toxic substances, and then proceed with vulcanization.
2. When using platinum catalyst for addition fluid silicone rubber vulcanization, the first thing to pay attention to is to control the vulcanization temperature to prevent it from being too high, because during high-temperature reactions, even a slight carelessness can precipitate platinum, and even more seriously, so the ambient temperature should be strictly controlled during the vulcanization process.
3. When conducting a sulfurization reaction, the catalyst should be added to a substance containing unsaturated bonds, and the reactants containing Si-H should be added dropwise to the sulfurization system, or the two reactants should be thoroughly stirred and mixed before adding the platinum catalyst.
4. It is better to have an excess of substances containing Si-H bonds (hydrogen containing silicone oil). Because platinum catalysts also catalyze the dehydrogenation reaction of Si-H bond substances. It causes the loss of Si-H bond, but the ratio of the amount of the substance containing Si-H bond to the substance containing the bond is too large, resulting in the decrease of the elongation of the silicone gel and the increase of the hardness, which is generally controlled between 1.2-1.4, and the ratio of silicone rubber is better between 1.5-1.8.
In the selection of chemical additives, platinum catalysts and platinum vulcanizing agents with metallic properties are widely used, which will become an important trend in the future due to the theme of environmental protection.
