Chemours expands its "Chemistry Achievement Future" scholarship program and awards scholarships to six STEM students at HBCU

Wilmington, Delaware, July 15, 2019/PRNewswire/--ChemoursCompany(Chemours(NASDAQ stock code: CC) is a multinational chemical company that holds a leading market position in the fields of fluorine products, titanium technology, and chemical solutions. The company awarded scholarships to six Delaware students today, who will enter the Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) program at a traditional Black University (HBCU) this fall.

Chemours Corporation promises to provide a scholarship of 0000 to talented and high potential young people living in the communities where the company operates within three years. These six award-winning students are part of Chemours's "Chemistry for the Future" scholarship commitment. On a broader level, as part of its corporate responsibility commitment, Chemours has pledged to invest  million in safety and sustainability plans by 2030, and expand the coverage of STEM education.

In the next four years, four students will receive an annual scholarship of 000:

Nia Anderson, who plans to study computer science at Howard University
Kayla Bell Davis, who plans to study biology at Howard University
Jazmine Harrison, who plans to study bioengineering at North Carolina A&M State University
Simone Josey, who plans to study biomedical engineering at North Carolina A&M State University

 

Two students received a one-time scholarship of 00:

Larae Christie, who plans to study geriatric care at Delaware State University
Jalynn Sampson, who plans to study food and nutrition science at Delaware State University

 

Last year, Chemours partnered with the City of Wilmington and Mayor Mike Purzycki's iconic program, the Wilmington HBCU College Equity Program, to establish the Chemours' Chemistry Achievement Future Scholarship Program. The Wilmington HBCU College Equity Program aims to discover and admit talented students to HBCU. Last year, Chemours awarded a four-year, 000 scholarship to Iyana Cain of Wilmington, who is currently a student at Delaware State University.

 

To further demonstrate its commitment to the community and STEM education, Chemours has invested 0 million to build a research and innovation center, the Chemours Discovery Hub, on the star campus of the University of Delaware, with plans to put it into use in 2020. After the construction is completed, 350 research scientists from Chemours will work together with students and professors in the innovative environment of public universities.
