Chemours acquires the mining business of Southern Ionics Minerals

        Wilmington, Delaware, August 2, 2019/PRNewswire/--Chemours Company(Chemours CC, a multinational chemical company with leading market positions in fluorine products, titanium dioxide technology, and chemical solutions, announced today that it has acquired Southern Ionics Minerals, LLC (SIM), a mineral exploration, mining, and manufacturing company headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida. SIM was once a wholly-owned subsidiary of Southern Ionics Incorporated (SII), a private inorganic chemical manufacturer located in West Point, Mississippi.

        The location where SIM mines and processes titanium and zirconium ore sands has a similar geological structure to the existing sand production site of Chemours Corporation in Florida. This acquisition provides great flexibility and scalability for Chemours to search for minerals internally, with production almost doubling. This acquisition includes a mineral processing plant located in Orferman, Georgia, an existing mine in Charlton County, Georgia, and an administrative office in Jacksonville, Florida.
