The Moore Medal is awarded by the American Chemical Industry Association (SCI) to recognize early career innovation achievements, which are reflected in both market impact and improvement in quality of life. The Teflon EcoElite waterproof agent was developed by a team led by Sworen from 2012 to 2015 and has now been adopted by many major consumer sportswear manufacturers, including Colmar.

Teflon EcoElite ™ surface treatment coating is the first fluorine free fabric treatment agent from renewable sources, providing long-lasting waterproofing. It is manufactured using 60% renewable raw materials that are not made from genetically modified organisms (GMOs). This means that over time, most of the components in Teflon EcoElite surface treatment coatings can be naturally regenerated and replaced. Meanwhile, its performance far exceeds existing fluorine free technologies such as paraffin and organosilicon. Sworen's career began at DuPont, the predecessor of Chemours, as a researcher. During his time at DuPont, he led the company in developing surface protection products, inventing 18 products in this field and achieving commercialization. Sworen holds a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Pennsylvania State University and a PhD in Organic Chemistry and Polymer Chemistry from the University of Florida. He is a Six Sigma Black Belt Master, has published 13 journal articles, and holds 27 authorized and pending patents.
